Kathy Lyons, M.A.
During her 5 years as a Marriage and Family Intern therapist Kathy Lyons worked with those suffering from co-occurring disorders and addictions. She focuses on helping her clients accept themselves in their current state and believes that only when you accept yourself exactly where you are, can change begin. She also finds that many who suffer with addictions have experienced a psychological, emotional or physical trauma in their lives. Kathy works with her clients to help heal those traumas.
Kathy earned her MA in Psychology from Phillips Graduate Institute with an emphasis in co-occurring disorders and addictions. She initiated her career by counseling adolescents in high school in addition to individuals, couples and families from various walks of life. In collaboration with the Los Angeles County Department of Probation, Kathy led Anger Management and Substance Abuse Groups while counseling young men incarcerated at Camp David Gonzales. She has also worked with clients suffering from depression, anxiety and PTSD.
Before she became interested in psychotherapy, Kathy worked in the entertainment industry and continues to work with junior high school drama clubs. She volunteered extensively with animal rehabilitation centers and is a certified avian specialist. During her psychology studies, she conducted research on Animal Assisted Therapy and firmly believes in the positive effect of animals on victims of trauma. Kathy is also a certified Hypnotherapist and is registered with the International Hypnosis Association.
